Alamo Community College District Foundation, Inc.

     The Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio
and the Alamo Community College District Foundation, Inc., shook hands on April 13, 2006 as they created the first Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio Scholarship for prospective, or current, students enrolling in any academic or technical education program relevant to the construction profession that is offered by any of the colleges of the Alamo Community College District.

     In initiating this action, Mr. Bobby D. Greaves, Executive Vice President of JSR, Inc., and Chairman of Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio, stated “As the San Antonio area continues to show a dynamic increase in new construction, it was strongly felt by the members of the Association that something should also be done about encouraging entry into the construction profession. Making scholarships available for students who are pursuing this career path was a natural conclusion, and partnering with the Alamo Community College District was a natural fit.”

     An initial gift of $5,000 was made by the Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio to establish the scholarship fund. The Alamo Community College District Foundation, Inc. chairperson Ms. Jackie Van De Walle, in accepting the gift on behalf of the Alamo Community College District, stated “It is exciting to witness the creation of yet another opportunity for students at the colleges of the Alamo Community College District. We are especially pleased to be joining with the Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio in our role of administering this much needed scholarship addressing the construction profession.”

     Programs at the colleges of the Alamo Community College District in which students may enroll and have their applications considered for the Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio Scholarship include: Air conditioning and Heating ( 2689), Refrigeration (2690), Diesel / Heavy Equipment Technology (2524), Computer Aided Drafting Technician (2662), Electrical Trades (2528), Home Building (2588), Building Trades (2626), Plumbing Trades (2535), Plumbers Helper (2532), Structural / Pipe Layout (2550), Welding (2724).  

     The funds for the Scholarships are derived from the Hispanic Contractors Association De San Antonio Spring Golf Tournament, Presented by Construction & Highway Supplies of Texas Inc.  Mr. Daniel Gutierrez, Vice President will be in attendance at the event.
